Players are responsible for communicating with their coaches about any missed practices prior to the training.
Our goal at Portsmouth High School Men’s Soccer is to create the best possible environment for player/team development and success. Participant evaluations will be based on the four key components of soccer: Technical, tactical, physical and psychosocial (communication, motivation, concentration etc.). Participants will also be evaluated on their desire to be a contributing member of a successful team, their desire for personal growth and success and their year over year improvement. Unfortunately cuts are a reality of the program and have to be made in order to provide the highest quality instructional environment throughout the program.
The goal of the JV is to create the best possible environment for player development and success. When possible the JV and Varsity programs will train together to create healthy competitions and growth throughout the pool. JV players will have the opportunity to get promoted to the varsity team if they can contribute to the training environment. Varsity players may be asked to train or play with the JV team to increase confidence or improve the JV training culture. Training with the JV is not a demotion but an opportunity to develop and contribute to the program.
The goal for the Freshmen team is to create the best possible environment for players to develop. With that said, we want to be competitive. Coach Rose will delegate playing time by balancing criteria for being competitive and development. Freshmen players who develop and compete at the highest levels will be promoted to the JV or Varsity team.
